Subject: Pandemic Swine Flu Outbreak Dispatch Protocols, Surveillance Tools, and Immediate Training for EMDs

The Academy has released new and updated tools for use in the emerging epidemic of Swine Flu.

1) ProQA has long contained a Severe Respiratory Infection Symptoms Surveillance and Crew Notification pop-up screen that can be used at any time. It's content has just been modified to be more consistent with what we know of Swine Flu signs and symptoms as of this time. This screen list is included on the Special SRI ftp site for ProQA users and can be printed out for use with manual card systems. It is available in all current MPDS language versions. This automated SRI checklist is for use with ProQA running versions 11.3, 11.4, and 12.0.

To access this site and update your software and materials, see instructions below.

2) A new Protocol 36 - Pandemic Flu (Officially Announced) has be added to ProQA and is also available in pdf format to be printed out for use with manual card systems. This Protocol determines whether patients initially presenting with the chief complaints of Breathing Problems (P-6), Chest Pain (P-10), Headache (P-18), Sick Person (P-26), is a likely flu patient or a non-infected patient. Different reduced responses (or referrals to PanFlu hot-lines, and even quarantining) can be initiated based on these codes. Three suffixes, based on local public safety needs (increased call load and/or reduced EMS response personnel availability), allow for a three-step decreasing level of EMS response deployment.

To access this site and update your software and materials, see instructions below.

3) Just in Time Training for Protocol 36: Special Procedures Briefing 8-page document is also available in pdf format to be printed out for quickly familiarizing EMDs with the use of this Protocol. Before using Protocol 36, each EMD must read this document. Your agency should be sure that this is done.

To access this site and obtain this document, see instructions below.

* Any emergency communication center, whether an MPDS user or not, can use the printed tools under a special limited use license contained within them. However, they cannot be incorporated into any 3rd party products or CADs, modified in any way, or re-distributed for any other uses. All materials are copyrighted with some materials patent pending.
