Agencies in the News for Promoting the EIDS Tool for Ebola

The following agencies received news media coverage for encouraging the use of the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch’s® (IAED™) Emerging Infectious Disease Surveillance (EIDS) Tool in light of the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. REFINED PPDS TO AID DISPATCHERS WITH RELEASE OF VERSION 4.2

PPDS version 4.2 is the result of changes, enabling greatest success both in the communication center and in the field. These changes help decrease dispatching times, increase accuracy and efficiency, and enhance the user’s experience. 

These improvements largely began as feedback provided by PPDS users through the submission of Proposal for Change forms, which were rated, reviewed, and voted on by the IAED’s Police Council of Standards. Combined with current research and field expertise, the proposed changes were weighed before their selection to incorporate into protocol.

PDC’s software development team then went to work adapting the new features into ProQA Paramount, PDC’s protocol software for communication centers. Following a beta test, version 4.2 was finalized and is now available. 

“Several elements have been refined and more terms defined, all in an effort to get the relevant details with far fewer questions,” said Dave Warner, police consultant with PDC, who helped draft the changes and organize beta testing.

ProQA Paramount integrates text messaging feature

In December 2012, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) released a proposal to “require all wireless carriers and providers of ‘interconnected’ text messaging applications to support the ability of consumers to send text messages to 9-1-1 in all areas throughout the nation where 9-1-1 Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) are also prepared to receive the texts.” The proposal also contained a provision to require carriers “to send automated ‘bounce back’ error messages to consumers attempting to text 9-1-1 when the service is not available.” The proposed FCC rules were based, in part, on a voluntary commitment made by AT&T, Verizon, Sprint Nextel, and T-Mobile to provide “text to 9-1-1” services nationwide by May 15, 2014. These carriers also voluntarily agreed to provide automatic “bounce back” notifications, when text to 9-1-1 service is not available, by June 30, 2013.

ProQA gives centers the benefit of a text message

Salt Lake City, Utah—Priority Dispatch Corp.™ (PDC™) has teamed up with the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch™ (IAED®) to help prepare Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) to receive text messages.

ProQA® Paramount software, developed by PDC, now has the ability to send SMS compatible, exact protocol-based text the computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system. CADs that support this feature can relay SMS text containing Case Entry Questions, Key Questions, and Dispatch Life Support (DLS) Instructions. This includes the lifesaving Pre-Arrival Instructions (PAIs) and safety warnings exactly as they are written in the Medical, Police, and Fire Priority Dispatch Systems™.

SMS compatibility in ProQA reflects PDC’s ongoing pledge to public safety and its ability to address the constantly changing state of 9-1-1 technology.

ISO provides major validation to fire dispatch protocols, certification, education

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah— A major validation of protocol efficacy came from the Insurance Standards Organization (ISO) through its national program rating community fire suppression delivery systems. ISO recognizes more than 47,500 fire protection areas.

The ISO Public Protection Classification (PPC) program added points for use of emergency fire dispatch protocols, and requiring certification, continuing dispatch education, and a quality assurance program. The PPC document shifts quality assurance from a hardware-based evaluation to performance standards, similar to the system developed by the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch® (IAED™). Dispatch accounts for 10% of the final PPC score.

Police Protocol early release comes in response to active assailant incidents

Salt Lake City, UT—December 27, 2012—The Priority Dispatch Corp.™ (PDC™) issue of Protocol 136: Active Assailant (Shooter) follows the recent and tragic events involving firearms and other weapons used against multiple victims and comes in advance of its scheduled release as part of Version 4.1 of the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch® (IAED™) Police Priority Dispatch System™ (PPDS™).

The 4.1 PPDS protocol will update cardset licensed users and include a new Case Entry sticker, and a pullout protocol with Key Questions and Pre-Arrival Instructions (PAIs).
